Come explore this Mothman themed AirBnb and solve the whole house escape room! (You're never locked in, it's just a bunch of puzzles!) Upstairs is creepy, funny, and cozy all at the same time. Downstairs is Mothman Cave with air hockey, PS5, T2 arcade game, and more! Outside has a nice fire pit with swings and a hammock under the deck. We'd rate it PG for scariness, so 5-10 year olds might get nervous unless they dig scary movies. It's ~1 mile of Fayetteville and the New River Gorge Bridge.

Mothmanor is a small 630 square foot ranch home that feels surprisingly spacious and has a full finished basement (1100 sf total). It sits on about a half acre of land and has a nice fire pit behind it. Art covers almost every surface, so have fun looking around! One bedroom has a king bed, the other a queen bed. Both bedrooms have very effective blackout curtains so you can sleep in! There are two very comfy cots in the basement for kids or another couple. The cleaning fee is rather high because it includes resetting the escape room.

House Rules

Please be responsible with the hammocks, swings, hanging chairs, games, etc. Don't be the reason we can't have nice things. Fire pit - only use 5 PM to 7 AM, be sure the fire is out, use lots of water. These are local regulations.

We had an AMAZING stay at the Mothman house! We loved looking at all the unique art and solving the escape room puzzles. Fair warning- this escape room is hard! Don't feel bad about looking at the clues. It is better to "cheat" your way through and get to the end than stop part way through! We loved the creative story behind the Mothman legend presented in the escape room setup. The house is very close to New River Gorge, and we were able to easily get to the hikes. It is also conveniently located near many good restaurants. We were surprised to find so many vegan options in the area. We were not specifically looking for a cryptid-themed house, but cannot imagine having stayed anywhere else for this year's Fall Family Fun. Next time we are in the area we will check out one of the other properties!

If you love maximalism, Fallout 76, or cryptids, this is the stay for you! My wife and I had a fantastic time at Mothmanor! We unfortunately didn’t get to finish the puzzles, but we loved the first few and the story behind it all is quite compelling! The home itself has been beautifully curated, and there is always something interesting to see in every nook and cranny. To top it all off, Nate is a wonderful host and is quick to respond if needed, and Mothmanor was sparkling clean yet cozy. I hope we can come back next year and unlock the secret room!

Everything was as it was described plus more. Escape room challenge was top notch. Tons of games and things to entertain kids if needed. Location proximity to New River National Park made exploring the park easy. Decor and vibe of the house was amazing. All of the additional info prior to checkin was super helpful in planning our weekend. Highly recommend this place!

Easily the most amazing place we have ever stayed in. The escape room was amazing, my son and I had a ball solving it, even though we needed the hints for pretty much every clue! The bed in the master was very comfortable, it was the best sleep I’ve had in months. I needed to reach out to Nate and he responded quickly! I can’t say enough about how wonderful a time we had!

Most unique air bnb experience we’ve ever had. We found this recommendation on tik tok under a search for “unique stays near New River Gorge”. The decor was 10/10, immersive and beautifully curated. There was so much to look at but also to do - from the escape room (so cool!) and all of the amenities provided, games, laser tag, air hockey and a fire pit. We stayed one evening, ordered in and just played in the home and we wish we had another night to just experience the stay! Great location to the New River Gorge bridge and visitor center as well! Very responsive hosts. 100/10. Don’t miss this if you love spooky, unique, lore/legends, escape rooms, games and nature.

What a cool place! There was a lot of thought and effort that went into the design. I was there for a week and was still finding neat things to look at on my last day. Nate and Rachel were super responsive and super informative about things to do and places to eat. I would definitely stay here again or at one of their other "themed" houses!
